Large coordinates
Question:
- Why can't I create elements?
- Why can't I move a drawing?
- Why are elements not created correctly?
- Why does the program crash when I import a DXF file from the land registry office?
- Why is the outline of a circumscribed area not detected correctly?
- Why can't I calculate shadows?
- Why are elements not displayed correctly in animation?
- Why are parts of dimension text missing?
- Why do the contents of the screen suddenly rotate?
- Why can't I get a preview when I move or copy elements?
- Why are areas not calculated correctly?
Finding the reason for these problems:
Check whether an offset is set in the project settings (File -> New Project, Open Project-> select the project and open the shortcut menu -> Properties; Allplan 2009 and earlier: Tools -> Options ->Advanced Draft -> Settings). If there are offset coordinates, clear the check box.
Select Tools -> Measure(->)Coordinates.
Click in the middle of the drawing in plan view.
If there are very large values (for example, x/y/z greater than 5000 m), you have found the reason for these problems.
The system has problems calculating and displaying data with very large coordinates. The more data you have with very large coordinates, the greater this effect.
Solution:
- Click Tools -> Options... -> Desktop environment -> Generaland select Optimize working with large coordinates(Allplan 2009 and earlier: Tools -> Options -> Global Options -> Miscellaneous tab -> Optimize working with large coordinates). After this you must restart Allplan. Otherwise, this setting has no effect.
This is a user setting you must define separately for each user.
- Usually, the best solution is to move the data towards the Allplan origin. Use the "Move" tool. When Allplan prompts you to specify the target point ("To point"), select Global point in the dialog line. You can find detailed information in the help for Allplan. Look for the Global pointtopic.
Note:
If the data are still not displayed correctly, do the following:
Exit Allplan -> Services application-> Service -> Hotline Tools-> cleanup -> start Allplan.
Workgroup Manager: checking out computer and working with user privileges
Question:
How can I check out a computer and continue to work as a normal CAD user with my usual settings and permissions?
Answer:
Install the "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" driver.
This driver is necessary so that network services are running on the computer all the time.
Go to Allplan Connect for a detailed description: https://connect.allplan.com/en/faqid/000162ae.html
Sign in as the Allplan administrator to the computer.
Step 1: add the computer to workgroup manager
You must add the computer to the workgroup so that you can store data (data server) on this computer. Do the following:
Create data folders:
Create a folder - for example, “Nemdata” - on the computer and share it (full control).
Create the “Allplan” subfolder in this folder. Create two subfolders - “usr” and “prj” - in the Allplan folder.
In this example: “...\Nemdata\Allplan\prj” and “...\Nemdata\Allplan\usr”
To share a folder for the Allplan file storage
- Start File Explorer on the computer that you want to use for file storage and switch to the folder that you want to share (in this example, the “Nemdata” folder).
- Right-click the folder that you want to share and select Give access to -> Specific peopleon the shortcut menu.
- Select Everyoneand click Share.
Add computer:
- Start the Services application as the workgroup administrator.
- Click and select Manage computers and projects.
- Click the Add any computer to Allplan workgroupicon and select the computer that you want to add.
- Select the “Allplan” subfolder under the share and click “OK” to confirm. This computer is now listed under workgroup server.
Note:If you have problems adding the computer to workgroup manager, read the following instructions:
https://connect.allplan.com/en/faqid/20200317162849.html
Step 2: define project owner
A user can only move a project if the user is the owner of this project.
The ownership of a project can only be changed by an Allplan administrator (or the owner of the project).
Allplan -> File -> ProjectPilot ->
Go to the “Projects” node, right-click the required project and click Propertieson the shortcut menu.
Define the owner.
Step 3: move projects
Sign in as the user who wants to check out the computer.
Select the Services application -> Workgroup Manager -> Manage computers and projects.
Click the main server and select the project that you want to move.
Drag the projects one after the other to the computer to be checked out.
Important note: You can take projects with you in several ways.
1. You move the project to the computer.
Move project: Drag the project to the destination computer, or open the shortcut menu of the project and click “Cut”. After this, open the shortcut menu of the destination computer and click “Paste”.
After you have checked in the computer, move the project back to the server so that it is available to all and included in backups again.
2. You copy projects. Click a project, select and hold the Ctrl key and drag the project to the destination computer. Or: Open the shortcut menu of the project and click “Copy”. After this, open the shortcut menu of the destination computer and click “Paste”.
You can continue in two ways: Lock the original project on the server to protect it from changes. Consequently, nobody in the office can work on this project, but it is still on the server. When you check in the computer again, you unlock the project on the server, delete the project and copy your copy back to the server if you have changed the project.
Alternatively, both projects remain active. Consequently, both the project copied and the original on the server can be worked on. In this case, however, you must adjust the data manually when you are back in the office by copying the changed drawing files of the projects by using ProjectPilot.
Step 4: check out the computer
Select the Services application -> Workgroup Manager -> Manage computers and projects.
Click your computer and then click Check outin the lower-right area.
Confirm the message that tells you that there are still user folders on the computer to be checked out.
Enter a comment and click OK. Users in the office see this comment when they try to access a project that is on the computer that is checked out.
Specify the parts of the office standard you want to copy to the computer and click OK to confirm.
The first time you check out the computer, you must copy the office standard once so that the entire STD folder is on this computer. This is no longer necessary when you check out the computer afterward because the contents of the STD folder do not change very often.
Conclusion:
You can now remove the computer from the network and work on your projects when you are out of the office. To make sure that the projects are not changed in the office in the meantime, the projects that are on the computer checked out are locked for the CAD users on the network. These users see the comment you entered when you checked out the computer.
Notes:
- You can only check out a computer to which you are signed in. You cannot check out another computer over the network.
- Projects on this computer must be neither locked nor in use.
- For installations with license server: You must also borrow a license from the license server for the computer you want to check out.

Transferring data from old Allplan versions
Question:
How can I import data from an earlier version?
Answer:
You can import data from the last three Allplan versions.
Consequently, the following import operations are possible:
Target version <- import possible from version
2017 <- 2014
2016 <- 2013
2015 <- 2012
2014 <- 2011
2013 <- 2009
2012 <- 2008
2011 <- 2006
2009 <- 2005
2008 <- 2004
2006 <- 2003
2005 <- 17
2004 <- 16
We cannot guarantee that data created in older versions can be imported and edited. The conversion of older data may be incomplete, which may affect intelligent components in particular.
1. Archived data from an earlier version (not older than three previous versions):
There are two ways to convert the data to the current version:
- Import the project backups created and archived using the
Services application -> Data Backup -> Import -> Projects.
After importing the projects, convert them by opening each project once. - Import the backups archived using the
Services application -> File -> Restore documents of any version to '...\Extern'.
The data are written to the external path.
You can now process the converted data in ProjectPilot.
2. Archived data from an older Allplan version (older than three previous versions):
- See whether you can use the approach described in step 1 to import the old projects.
- If available, it is a good idea to install an old Allplan version. Import the backups created and archived into this old version and convert the projects using the Services application. If you have imported a complete project backup, convert the data by opening each project once. When finished, repeat this process with a newer version (up to three versions later) until the data are up-to-date.
- If an old Allplan version is not available, you can also have the data converted by Allplan. Please note that this service is not free of charge. Please contact Technical Support -> support.de@allplan.com.
Notes:
- You can convert the data of all projects at once. Read the following FAQ in Allplan Connect: https://connect.allplan.com/en/faqid/20090408124904.html
- If enough hard disk space is available, you are advised to keep and maintain the projects so that Allplan automatically converts them to the current version whenever you upgrade.
- If there are project-specific smart symbol catalogs, you should open the smart symbol catalog once to convert the data.
Moving license server to a new server
Question:
How can I move the license server to a new server?
Answer:
If you activated the license(s) online by entering a Product Key, you can return the license(s) and then use them on a different server. You can return licenses only if the server has Internet access.
Returning a license
To return a license in online mode
- Start the license server by opening the License Settings.
- Click License activationon the left. Then click the license you want to return.
- Click Return license.
- Do this for each license until you have returned all licenses.
You can now activate the license(s) on a different server.
To install the license server on the new server, download the software for the license server from Allplan Connect.
You can activate a license in online mode only if you have ...
- Internet access
- a Product Key
Installing the license server on the new server
- Start License Server Setupon the new server.
- Click Install.
- Start the license server by starting the License Settingsprogram. Go to the License activationarea, enter your Product Key and click Activate license.
- If you have more licenses for the license server, enter the respective Product Keys and activate the licenses.
- Afterwards, start CodeMeter Control Center.
To do this, use the Windows start menu and select CodeMeter -> CodeMeter Control Center. As an alternative, open Search by clicking the Search button on the Start screen, enter Codemeter and press ENTER. A dialog box opens. Click WebAdmin at bottom right.
Or Enter Localhost:22350in the address bar of your browser.
- Select Settings -> Server -> Access serverin the Network serverarea and click Activate.
- Click Apply.
Configuring the clients
The license server license will be detected automatically on the network; the clients display the license(s) provided by the new server.
Check the license selection in the license settings of the client:
Services application -> Utilities -> License settings -> License selection
Priority:
Select the check box in front of a license to select this license as a favorite. You can mark as many licenses as you want. Allplan will then prefer these licenses. Click to select one ore more licenses Allplan is not to use. If you do not select any license or if you have selected several favorites, Allplan will automatically use the first free license it finds.
Find license server automatically:
When you select this option, Allplan automatically detects a license server on the LAN. In some cases, such as VPN connections, Allplan may not be able to detect a server automatically. In this case, you can enter the server manually (see additional server name).
Note:Only the Windows administrator can change this option.
Additional server name:
If 'Find license server automatically' is not active or Allplan has not automatically found a license server, you can manually enter the name or the IP address of the server. If 'Find license server automatically' is active, you can enter an additional server. After having entered the server name, click Updateto see the licenses of the license server. Use semicolons to separate several server names.
Notes:
You can find detailed information on the license server in the License Settings help (F1 key).
Allplan communicates with the license server via TCP/IP. By default, communication is via Port 22350unless you change the port in CodeMeter WebAdmin.
If a firewall is active on your computer, you must enable port 22350 for TCP and UDP. If the firewall filters in an application-specific manner, you have to enable the CodeMeter.exe license server service. You can find this service in the %Program Files (x86)%\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin Windows folder. Define the CodeMeter.exe service as an exception in the firewall. Some anti-virus programs also include firewall functions. If you are not sure, contact the manufacturer of the anti-virus program.
Presenting 3D animation model without Allplan
Task:
You would like to export your Allplan 3D animation model and present it to somebody who does not work with Allplan.
Preparation:
Install a plug-in for Internet Explorer on the computer where you want to view the 3D data. Using this plug-in, you can open VRML files.
Plug-ins of this kind can be found on the Internet. Visit the website of Parallelgraphics, for example.
This plug-in is available for the following browsers:
Internet Explorer 6.0, Netscape Browser 8.0, Mozilla Firefox 1.5, Opera 8.5 or later versions.
http://www.cortona3d.com/Products/Cortona-3D-Viewer.aspx
Solution:
Open an animation window in Allplan.
Select File->Export ->Export to Cinema 4D/VRML/3DS/U3Dand save the data under any name in Windows Explorer.
It is advisable to save the file in an empty folder as the textures used in Allplan are copied together with the VRM fileto this folder.
You can then view the VRML file in Internet Explorer. All you need to do is double-click it. The functions provided for navigating and zooming are similar to those you can use in Allplan's animation window.
Note:
The Export 3D PDFtool is provided on the animation window's shortcut menu in Allplan 2008 and later versions. You can use Adobe Reader Version 2008 and later to view PDF files created in this manner.
License activation - "no Internet connection" when entering the Product Key
Question:
I cannot activate Allplan. When I enter the Product Key, the "no Internet connection" message appears even though the computer is connected to the Internet. Which ports are required? Are there any settings for the proxy server?
Answer:
License activation accesses the internally used URLs
https://lc.codemeter.com/59885/gateways/getLicenses.php and
https://lc.codemeter.com/59885/gateways/getTicketInformation.php.
Make sure the proxy server does not block these URLs.
Try to activate the license again.
Exporting complex data with external references from Allplan's layout editor
Question:
How can I export data from the layout editor so that Allplan creates a layout DWG and an additional reference DWG for each drawing file?
Answer:
As opposed to Allplan, AutoCAD only provides one model space. You cannot work with various drawing files as usual in Allplan. Using external references, however, you can load parts of different DWG files into one DWG file.
The "exporting complex data with external references" method is particularly useful for exporting data from Allplan's layout editor.
With this method, a master drawing (layout DWG) is created from the layout and additional reference drawings (reference DWGs) are created from all the drawing files placed in the layout. All these reference drawings are associated with the layout DWG and thus also visible there. These files only contain the AutoCAD model space.
Export:
Select the layout you want to export in Allplan's layout editor:
- Select File -> Export-> Export AutoCAD Data.... Select the relevant layout and click OK to confirm.
- A dialog box opens. In the Save inarea at the top, select the folder where you want to save the exported file and select the required file type.
- Click Options... and set the required options on the 'General Settings'tab. In Allplan 2009 and later, for example, you can select the exchange favorite 3 as the basis for the export and set the other options manually.
Open the 'AutoCAD specific'tab. In the 'Part of file to be transferred'area, select the Design (model space)check box.
If necessary, define additional settings in the options and confirm them by clicking OK. - Then start the export by clicking Save.
- The "Export:..." dialog box opens for the layout. Click the Modifybutton if you want to change the configuration. While exporting the data, Allplan displays the "Export:..." dialog box for each drawing file used.
- Allplan creates one layout DWG and an additional reference DWG for each drawing file.
Result:
1. Files created:
Allplan creates a file for the layout (e.g., "plan_1.dwg") and an additional file as an XRef for each drawing file placed in the layout (e.g., "tb_1.dwg", "tb_2.dwg" and so on).
When you open the layout DWG (e.g., "plan_1.dwg") in AutoCAD, the reference DWGs (e.g., "tb_1.dwg", "tb_2.dwg" and so on) are displayed as external references.
2. Resolving elements:
Elements in drawing files are transferred as complex elements (e.g., hatching, patterns and dimension lines are retained).
Elements that are directly in the layout are transferred as complex elements or they are resolved, depending on the settings in the 'Explode elements'area.
3. Filtering elements:
The filters in the 'Transfer elements'area apply not only to the data that is directly in the layout but also to the data of the drawing files.
4. Construction lines:
Using the filter for construction lines in the 'Transfer elements'area, you can filter construction lines both in the layout and in the drawing file. In the 'Transfer elements'area, switch off the Construction linesor Not plottable elementoption (same effect).
5. Clipping boundaries:
A clipping boundary is an area that is cut, for example, by a layout window. Clipping boundaries are taken into account.
6. Allplan structure:
Allplan creates a separate DWG for the layout and for each drawing file and transfers the drawing file structure in this way. The layers of the drawing files become the layers of the DWG.
7. Paper space – model space:
With this method, the model space is transferred in each DWG.
Note:
If your planning partners do not want to work with several DWG files in AutoCAD, they can integrate the reference DWGs into the layout DWG and thus work with a single DWG file.
To make sure that the data is referenced correctly when the DWG file is opened, you need to save all the files in a common folder and transfer this folder.
If you have any further questions regarding data exchange, this topic is described in detail in the online Help. All you need to do is press the F1 key. Open the Index tab and selectInterfaces.
Workgroupmanager: Adding the computer is not possible
Question:
You want to include a computer in the Allmenu via Workgroupmanager, but no network environment is displayed and no result appears when you enter the computer name in Search. How can the computer still be included?
Answer:
All computers included in the Workgroupmanager are stored in the data.cfg on the server in the central file storage request.
The Allmenu window shows the exact path of the "central file storage folder".
e.g. \\SERVER\data\Allplan
Go via Windows Explorer to the central file storage folder in the NET folder and open the file data.cfg (e.g. with the editor)
The content of the file looks like this
SERVER \data\Allplan
(So far no computer has been included and therefore there are no further entries in this example)
Here you can enter the new path of the computer to be recorded
Simply enter the computer name, spacebar, shared folder, subfolder as a new line.
Enter only your simple host name here, not the FQDN name (first name only, without periods and other additions)
Please make sure that all entries are flush with each other. Please do not remove the space bars in existing entries and also insert a space bar after the host name when entering, these are important.
So it looks like this
SERVER \data\Allplan
COMPUTERNAME \Nemdata\Allplan
Save the file.
As a result, the computers in the workgroup are displayed in the Allmenu/Services application under Workgroupmanager - > Administer projects and computers and can now be checked out.
Finding license server automatically or entering additional server name not possible
Question:
Why is it not possible to clear the check box for 'Find license server automatically' and why can't I enter an additional server name? These functions are grayed out.
Answer:
This problem is caused by Windows access rights. Only administrators can change these options.
Installing Allplan:
If this problem occurs during Setup and you cannot select a license, start by installing Allplan as a viewer.
Granting permissions later:
Assign full control to the users.
Local permissions prevent them from accessing the following file: Lic3LM.ini
Check whether the users have full control of the following folder:
Click folder with the right mouse button -> Properties -> Security -> Edit -> select the user - > grant full control
C:\ProgramData\Nemetschek(hidden file)
Open the 'License settings' dialog box: Services application -> Utilities -> License settingsYou should now be able to clear the check box and enter additional server names.

Transferring license to a new or another computer
Question:
How can I transfer the license permanently to a new computer?
How can I temporarily transfer the license of a registered computer to a different computer?
How can I interchange the licenses of two registered computers?
Answer:
If you activated the license online by entering a Product Key, you can return the Product Key and then use it for a different computer. You can return and activate the license only if the computers have Internet access. The computer where you want to return or activate the license does not have to be online all the time. It is enough if it is online while you are returning or activating the license.
Returning a license
To return a license in online mode
- Open the 'License settings' dialog box: Services application -> Utilities -> License settings
- Write down the Product Key for the license you are returning.
- Click License activationon the left. Then click the license you want to return.
- Click Return license.
You can now activate the license on a different computer.
Activating a license
If you want to transfer the license permanently, you can activate a license while you are installing Allplan or after you have installed Allplan. By activating a license, you connect the license with the new or other computer. As a result, you can start Allplan on this computer.
If you want to transfer the license only temporarily, install Allplan as a viewer on the second computer and
activate the license later.
To activate the license during installation:
Start Setup and follow the instructions displayed.
- In the 'Installation Option' dialog box, select the 'Enter Product Key' option and click 'Next'.
- Enter your Product Key.
- Click 'Activate license'.
To activate the license after installation:
- Open the 'License settings' dialog box: Services application -> Utilities -> License settings
- Click License activationon the left.
- Enter your Product Key.
- Click Activate license.
Here comes a practical example:
If you want to use a Product Key for running Allplan on two or more computers, you must use computer A to return the license before you can use this license with computer B. To return the license, open the Services application -> Utilities -> License settings -> Return license. If this computer always uses the same Product Key, you can find this Product Key in the box below License activation. This box always displays the last Product Key entered.
If you switch between several licenses, it is a good idea to save the Product Keys used in a text file on the desktop. This way, you can copy the Product Keys quickly and easily to the license settings.
Note: When license cannot be returned due to defect
If your computer has a defect and does not start anymore, or your hard disk has crashed and you had to install a new one, we need a statutory declaration from you. You will receive this declaration after your situation has been checked by the technical support team. Please contact your local Allplan Support with a brief description of what happened.
Further Notes:
You can also find your Product Key in Allplan Connect. Go to http://connect.allplan.com/license
Click Profile -> License administration.
Only administrators can use this function.

Allplan Connect - Administration of Company Network
1. What is a company network?
You can create a "company" network as a customer in Allplan Connect.
Persons assigned to your company network also benefit from Allplan Connect. Serviceplus customers are granted premium rights and can thus access Allplan Connect without any restrictions. Customers without Serviceplus agreements have limited access to Allplan Connect.
As the administrator, you can invite employees to your Allplan Connect company network and then accept them. It is also possible to remove persons you have already accepted and assigned to your network.
To become the administrator, you need to register with you customer number and enter your admin key on the Admin - Company Connection page. You can find your admin key in the personal letter you received.
2. What is an administrator?
The administrator is an employee in a company who is entitled to create an Allplan Connect company network. The administrator is granted advanced rights in Allplan Connect to create a company network, invite persons, confirm or turn down connection requests to an existing company network or remove persons already assigned to a company network.
3. Which functions of Allplan Connect are available to me?
Serviceplus customers have access to all Allplan Connect functions without any restrictions. Customers without Serviceplus agreements have limited access to Allplan Connect.
4. What are the privileges of Serviceplus customers?
Serviceplus customerscan access the contents and functions of Allplan Connect without any restrictions. What's more, they can take part in events, contact Technical support and
use the entire content of Allplan Connect for free.
Customers without Serviceplus agreementshave limited access to the contents and the functions of Allplan Connect. However, they can use more parts of the content and more functions than interested parties. Therefore, they can download more content items, watch e-Learning videos or read FAQs.
Interested partiescan also register for and log in to Allplan Connect. However, the number of available functions is limited further.
5. How can I become an administrator in Allplan Connect?
To become an administrator, you need to confirm your customer number using the admin key. This is only possible for Allplan customers. You can find detailed instructions on how to enter your admin key in Allplan Connect in the document entitled "Instructions for registration".
6. What can an administrator of a company network do?
The administrator of a company network can invite employees to join the company's network. Of course, the administrator can also remove persons from the network again.
Members of a company network can benefit from the company's status in Allplan Connect (customer or Serviceplus customer).
7. How can I join a company network?
To join a company network, you need the customer number of your company. You can then enter it in the corresponding box on the Admin - myProfile page. Now all that is missing is the confirmation of your company network's administrator
. To get this confirmation, you can send a connection request to the administrator on the Admin - Company Connection page.
8. What is an admin key?
The admin key is a string consisting of 16 characters. Persons who receive the appropriate admin key for a customer number can become the administrator of the customer-based company network in Allplan Connect.
Each admin key is only valid in conjunction with your customer number and can only be used once. If you require another admin key, you need to request it. You will get it personally from us.
Unused admin keys are valid indefinitely. They do not expire until the customer number is confirmed.
9. How can I get an admin key?
The admin key is sent to you by mail. If you have not received it or if you require more admin keys, you can use Allplan Connect to send a request.
To do this, open the Admin - Company Connection page.
There you can find a link to the "Request Admin Key" online form.
10. Can I also register for Allplan Connect if I do not have an admin key?
Everyone can take part in Allplan Connect - whether you are a user of Allplan software or simply interested in Allplan. Registration is free. Even interested parties have access to all areas of Allplan Connect.
11. What about several administrators in my company network?
As soon as another user confirms a customer number using the admin key, this user also becomes an administrator of the corresponding company network. An administrator has the option to remove each additional administrator from the company network. Your written invitation to Allplan Connect contains three admin keys.
You can request more admin keys using the online form at
https://connect.allplan.com/de/support/kontakt/admin-key-anfragen.html
If an administrator leaves the company or is on holiday or out of office for a long time, the option to have multiple administrators makes sure that all admin functions are always attended to.
12. What happens if I incorrectly enter the admin key five times?
If you inadvertently typed the admin key incorrectly five times, you can reactivate your customer number as follows:
1) There is an administrator in your company network
Send a connection request to this administrator on the Admin - Company Connection page.
2) You are establishing a new company network
In this case, please contact our support team by sending an
Email:
connect.uk@allplan.com
Contact form:
https://connect.allplan.com/de/support/kontakt/allgemeine-anfragen.html
Our support team will reactivate your customer number and generate a new admin key so that you can use this new admin key to confirm your customer number.

Activating license offline (without Internet access)
Question:
My computer does not have Internet access, but I would like to activate the license with the Product Key. What can I do?
Information:
The easiest way to activate and return Allplan licenses is to do this online. In other words, the computer has Internet access. However, you can also activate Allplan on a computer without Internet access (offline licensing). Offline licensing is particularly useful if some Allplan computers in your office do not have Internet access and do not use a license server either.
If the computer without Internet access and the computer with Internet access are neither close to each other (for example, the computer in the office hasInternet access, but the computer at home does not haveInternet access) nor connected with each other (for example, using LAN), offline activation is not very suitable, as you have to access both the computer with Internet access and the computer without Internet access.
Requirements for activating a license offline:
- You have a valid Product Key.
- You have installed Allplan on the computer without Internet access (for example, as a viewer).
- You have another computer with Internet access.
Important: Activating a license offline involves two steps. In addition, you need to upload a receipt file so that you can return the license offline later.
There are the following basic steps:
- Creating and uploading the license request file
- Downloading and importing the license update file
- Creating and uploading the receipt file
The online computer uses the following web page:
http://lc.codemeter.com/59885/depot_151/index.phphttp://lc.codemeter.com/59885/depot/index.php
Note:
As both the license file and the receipt file are saved with the name of the container number by default, it may happen that you mix up these two files. Therefore we strongly recommend that you use meaningful names for the files. For example, the name could include the name of the computer and the Product Key or the words “license” and “receipt”.
This is particularly important if you want to activate several computers offline.
Answer:
A: Activating licenses offline
To activate licenses, use CodeMeter Control Center.
Start CodeMeter Control Center.
To do this, use the Windows start menu and select CodeMeter -> CodeMeter Control Center. An an alternative, go to the Windows search box and type Codemeter.
You can find the container numbers in the ‘License’ area.
If you have a stand-alone license, the name of this container is Allplan GmbH and its number is 327XXXXXXX.
Select this container and click Activatelicense on the right. Select
Create license request. Create a *.WibuCmRaC file for your container.
Take this file to a computer that is online.
Go to the following web page:
http://lc.codemeter.com/59885/depot/index.php
Enter your Product Keyin the “Ticket” line and click Next. You can now see your license.
Click Activate license.
You can see your license and all available updates, which should be selected. Click Offline License Transferat the bottom on the right.
You can now upload the *.WibuCmRaC file (Browse....) by clicking Upload license request now. This creates your license, which you can download by clicking Download license update file now. Install this license on your computer.
To do this, go to CodeMeter Control Center and click File-> Importlicense.
You can see the activated license in the Services application -> Utilities -> License settingsand you can now use this license for Allplan.
Finally, upload the receipt file.
To do this, open CodeMeter Control Centeragain and select the new Allplan GmbH license with the number 128-XXXXXXX.
Then click License update -> Next -> Create receipt.
Create the receipt file for this container.
Upload this receipt file using the web page.
Take this file to the computer that is online. Click Nexton the web page.
If you have already closed the web page, use the link given above and enter your Product Key once again. Then select Continue with license transfer.
Select the receipt file and click Upload receipt now.
Click OKto confirm. This completes license activation.
B: Returning licenses offline
You can return licenses in the same way:
Start CodeMeter Control Center and select the container with the license (Allplan GmbH with the number 128-XXXXXXX). Then click License update -> Next -> Create license request.
Here, too, create a *.WibuCmRaC file for your container.
Take this file to a computer that is online.
Here, too, go to the following web page:
http://lc.codemeter.com/59885/depot/index.php
Enter your Product Keyin the “Ticket” line and click Next. You can now see your license.
Click Move license.
Click Offline License Transferat the bottom on the right.
You can now upload the *.WibuCmRaC file (Browse....) by clicking Upload request now.
Then click Download license update file now. Download the file and import it. To do this, go to CodeMeter Control Centerand click File -> Importlicense.
Then create a receipt by clicking License update -> Next -> Create receipt.
Upload this receipt file using the web page.
To do this, click Nexton the web page.
If you have already closed the web page, use the link given above and enter your Product Key once again. Then select Continue with license transfer.
Select the receipt file and click Upload receipt now.
Click OKto confirm. This completes license activation.
The license is now available again and can be used on another computer.

Some notes on installing Allplan 2019
If you want to switch from Allplan 2016/2017/2018 to Allplan 2019, you can choose between three installation options. We recommend using the second option: first-time installation and copy data from Allplan 2016/2017/2018.
1. First-time installation
This option installs Allplan 2019 to a new folder without affecting any other Allplan installation (2018 or earlier). Setup does not transfer any data or settings to the new installation.
If you want to transfer data later, you have the following options:
You can uninstall Allplan 2019 and then upgrade from Allplan 2016/2017/2018.
You can integrate the data manually (requires administrative knowledge).
2. First-time installation and copy data from version
This option installs Allplan 2019 to a new folder without affecting any other Allplan installation (2018 or earlier). You can configure Setup to automatically copy the office standard (\std), projects (\prj) and user data (\usr) from Allplan 2016/2017/2018 to the new installations folder.
This duplicates the data: You can use all projects, defaults and resources both in Allplan 2018 and in Allplan 2016/2017/2016. This way, you can test the new version without losing your 'old' Allplan version.
Bear in mind, though, that you should not mix data from different versions. Merging data later involves considerable time and effort.
2a. Continue with first-time installation and copy data from version
This option is available when you have already used the second installation option to install <Product_Version> to a computer that accesses the same data server. As a result, the data are already available.
3. Upgrade and transfer data from Allplan 2016/2017/2018
This option installs Allplan 2019 to an existing folder, converting Allplan 2016/2017/2018 to Allplan 2019 and transferring all important settings. Afterwards, you can no longer work with Allplan 2016/2017/2018.
This does nor affect earlier Allplan versions (Allplan 2015 or earlier).
Installing on a network:
- If you work in a network environment (one common central file storage folder), you must upgrade all workstations to Allplan 2019. Beforeyou start installing, make sure that all workstations can be upgraded. For technical reasons, it is not possible to mix installations of different major releases. Any related problems area not covered by service contracts.
- During the upgrade, Allplan 2016/2017/2018 must not be running on any workstation.
- When installing with Workgroup Manager, make sure all workstations are checked in before you start upgrading.
Converting the data:
Data from earlier Allplan versions need to be converted to version 2019. Allplan 2019 automatically converts the data of a project you open. Click here for instructions on how to convert all projects in a single operation:

Transferring NemSLock license permanently to a new computer
Question:
How can I transfer the NemSLock license permanently to a new computer?
Answer:
Proceed as follows:
- Install the program on the new computer. Use the temporary license (xxx_xxx_psd.nslock) you received when you purchased the program. If you do not have a temporary license of the current version, contact your support team to request such a license.
You can then work with the program for 30 days – plenty of time to configure your new computer, transfer the office standard and projects and so on (you can find instructions in the FAQ database).
At the same time you can work with the program on your old computer without any restrictions. - When you have transferred everything you need, return the license to us. To do this, use the old computer and click
Start -> (All) Programs -> Nemetschek -> Nemetschek SoftLock 2006 -> License Manager
(Services application -> Utilities -> License -> License Manager (NemSLock)).
Click "Relocate licenses -> Transfer licenses permanently to a computer". This creates the COMPUTER_NAME.hrdwchg file. Send this file by email to register@nemetschek.de.
Tip: Click 'Browse' in the 'Send hardware change file (*.hrdwchg)' dialog box. The program creates and saves the COMPUTERNAME.hrdwchgfile. Then Windows Explorerstarts and the folder with the hardware change file opens. You can now use all the options provided by Windows Explorer: for example, you can attach the file to an email, copy it to a computer having Internet access and so on. Email this file to register@nemetschek.de.
Note:
After you have created this file, the Allplan license of your old computer will still be valid for two more days.
As soon as we have removed the registration, we will send you a confirmation by email.
- Create a registration request (register.txt) on the new computer and send this file by email to register@nemetschek.de.
To generate a registration request, do the following:
Open the License Manager (Service application -> Utilities- > License -> License Manager). Select the license entry for your seat and click "Request license". Please follow the instructions displayed on screen. Complete the form. Do not forget to enter your email address.
You will promptly receive the license for the new computer (provided you have returned the license to us as described above).
Installing this license file completes the license transfer to the new computer.
Note:
The COMPUTER_NAME.hrdwchg file is stored in the following folder:
Allplan 2012 and earlier:
- Windows 64-bit:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Nemetschek\NemSLock2006\License
- Windows 32-bit:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nemetschek\NemSLock2006\License
Allplan 2013 and later:
- C:\ProgramData\Nemetschek\NemSLock\AllplanLicense
- or C:\ProgramData\Nemetschek\NemSLock\HardwareTausch
Controlling license selection
Question:
I have several licenses, but I want to use a specific license to start Allplan. How can I do this?
Answer:
Open the license settings on the client:
Services application -> Utilities -> License settings -> License selection
You can see all the licenses that are available on the network. You can control license selection as follows:
Select the check box in front of a license to select this license as a favourite. You can mark as many licenses as you want. Allplan will then prefer these licenses. Click to select one or more licenses Allplan is not to use.
Make settings as you need.
If you do not select any license or if you have selected several favourites, Allplan will automatically use the first free license it finds.
Note:
Check which licenses are available.

Installing loopback adapter for a stand-alone version with Workgroup Manager
Question:
I have used the "Check out" tool to check out the computer from the network and remove the network connection.
Why is Workgroup Manager no longer working?
Answer:
Windows disables network functionality as soon as you remove the network connection (unplug the network cable).
Running Allplan, however, requires specific network protocols (even if the computer is checked out).
Solution:
To make sure that the operating system's network functionality is not interrupted, you can install a virtual network interface card.
Microsoft provides a driver for this (loopback adapter).
How to install:
Windows 8/10:
Right-click the Windows Start button -> select "Run".
Type in "hdwwiz" in the search field. Right-click the program found -> select "Run as admin".
Click Next -> select the required hardware manually in a list and install it -> click "Next".
Select "Network adapter" in the list -> click "Next".
Select "Microsoft" in the list on the left -> "Microsoft loopback adapter for KM TEST" is presented for selection on the right -> click "Next" -> click "Next".
Windows 7:
Click the Windows Start button -> type in "hdwwiz" in the search field. Right-click the program found -> select "Run as administrator".
Click Next -> select the required hardware manually in a list and install it -> click "Next".
Select "Network adapter" in the list -> click "Next".
Select "Microsoft" in the list on the left -> "Microsoft loopback adapter" is presented for selection on the right -> click "Next" -> click "Next".
Windows Vista:
Start the "Hardware Wizard" by selecting
Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and clicking Continue -> Next.
Select "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (advanced)" in the box and choose "Network adapter" in the list that follows.
This selects and installs the "Microsoft loopback adapter".

Server operating system for the data storage of Allplan
Question:
Which server or server operating system can be used for data storage of Allplan.
Reply:
Since Allplan 2018 we recommend Windows Server 2016 as the server operating system for pure data storage and since Allplan 2019 also Windows Server 2019, since Allplan 2022 Windows Server 2022.
When selecting the server operating system, please also take into account the interaction with the client operating systems used.
For Windows Server 2012 R2, the "development phase" (fixing bug fixes, etc.) was discontinued in 2018.
However, Microsoft will continue to provide extended support (closing security gaps) until 10.10.2023.
The same applies in this respect for the Windows 8.1 operating system used in the same period.
Due to this fact, it cannot be ruled out that the further development of the Windows 10 operating system and the "technological standstill" of Windows Server 2012 R2 could lead to discrepancies when combining these operating systems at some point.
However, Microsoft should be able to guarantee compatibility for the operating systems used in the future.
Windows Server 2016 - Windows 10
Windows Server 2019 - Windows 10
Windows Server 2022 - Windows 10 and Windows 11 respectively.
If Allplan is also to be installed on the server operating system (e.g. Citrix), the corresponding release in the system requirements must be observed. For Allplan 2016/2017 this is e.g: Windows Server 2012 R2. For higher Allplan versions this is e.g: Windows Server 2016.
General information about the system requirements here:
https://www.allplan.com/en/system/system-requirements/
Notes on NAS systems:
NAS server are not generally recommended. Because the product variety and quality is very diverse, no effective quality control can take place. We can give no guarantee about operability. In the past we had performance or stability problems, false representations up to the loss of data in some cases.
This phenomenon occurs most in NAS systems of the lower price segment, which have not installed sufficiently fast hardware. If nevertheless a NAS system is to be used we recommend generally a high-performance hardware and the use of the operating system "Windows Storage Server 2012".
Working with Allplan from home
Question:
How can I work from home with Allplan without a direct LAN connection to a common file storage folder?
Answer:
1. Working from home with direct access to the central data
If you want to work together on projects, you can use Allplan Share, Allplan’s cloud solution, to work with Allplan without a LAN connection to the central file storage folder. This is only possible if Allplan is installed as a standalone version on a computer without access to a central file storage folder; otherwise, Allplan does not start. If the computer is part of a workgroup installation, the computer must be checked out and used outside the LAN (like a standalone workstation). Data access is via cloud services.
This is only possible if you use Allplan Share for cloud storage.
Working with Allplan Share is just as simple as working at a standalone workstation. You and several other users can access and edit a project at the same time.
To get more information on Allplan Share, use the following link or contact your sales partner:
https://www.allplan.com/de/add-ons/allplan-share/
You can also find further information on Allplan Connect; use the following link:
https://connect.allplan.com/de/forum/themen/topic/topics/cad-allgemein-1/moderierter-sammelbeitrag-zugriff-auf-allplan-projekte-aus-dem-homeoffice-via-allplan-share.html
Note:
VPN is not useful for common project storage.
Allplan exchanges many files with the data server. VPN uses advanced encryption, which considerably slows down data transfer.
A connection via VPN is not approved for Allplan because data might get damaged even if the connection is interrupted only briefly. In addition, working over the internet is extremely slow if the internet connection is not fast enough (at least 100 Mbit).
Allplan does not support a VPN connection with IPv6; Allplan detects only IPv4.
Make sure that the VPN connection does not switch to sleep mode.
Please note that we cannot provide support for this constellation.
2. Working from home without access to the central file storage (working locally):
2.1 Allplan with workgroup manager:
If workgroup manager is included in your license, you can check out a computer or laptop with projects from the workgroup environment. You can then work from home without access to the server. The projects on the computer or laptop that is checked out are locked for the CAD users on the network. These users see the comment you entered when you checked out the computer.
You can find instructions athttps://connect.allplan.com/en/faqid/20160923105251.html
When you use a license server, you can get the license via a VPN connection or borrow the license beforehand:https://connect.allplan.com/en/faqid/20180109095437.html
https://connect.allplan.com/en/faqid/20160523165423.html
2.2 Allplan without workgroup manager:
Using the office computer
If you have neither workgroup manager nor network access, you must uninstall Allplan and install it again by specifying the local paths. To work with a project, you must back it up and then import it to the local installation.
Using a new (private) computer
If you want to use a new computer to work from home, you must return the license at the office computer and then use this license to install Allplan on the new computer.
We recommend that you do not mix data from the office computer and the private computer. Merging data later involves considerable time and effort.
Use the following link to find out how to transfer projects:https://connect.allplan.com/en/faqid/20180507154505.html
Converting all Allplan projects in a single operation
Question:
I just installed an upgrade. How can I convert all the projects at once?
Answer:
Back up all the projects beforehand!
Do the following:
- Exit Allplan on all workstations.
- Only when working with Workgroup Manager:
Log in as the Allplan administrator (sysadm). - Start the Services application.
- Only when working with Workgroup Manager:
Make sure all the computers where projects are located are up and running.
To check this, select:
Services application -> Workgroup Manager -> Information -> Display Project List(the second column displays the computer where the project is located). - Go to the computer where you want to convert the data and set the drawing file size to the maximum value:
Services application->Service ->Hotline Tools->docsize ->512 (or 1024, if available) ->OK
Note:
After data conversion, you can set the drawing file size back to the initial value. - Start converting the data (use the computer where you have changed the drawing file size):
Services application ->Service ->Hotline Tools -> datwaprjs: convert data of all projects
If you reply "Yes" at the following two prompts, the program will convert the data of all projects.
Notes:
The time it takes to convert the data depends on various factors:
- Number of projects
- Size of each project
- Performance of the computer converting the data
- Network performance
It is possible to start data conversion from several workstations at the same time.
Error message LocalDataPath exceeds maximum length of 80 characters
Question:
What does this error message mean and how can I fix it? How can I change the path and switch from server to local?
Response:
For the use of Allplan Share, a defined path for the "LocaldataPath" is used for the temporary storage of the project data to be edited. In Allplan 2021, a default setting was made so that the LocaldataPath should always be in the Windows user folder. However, for customers who place their users on the server, this causes the problem that 80 characters are exceeded.
Since hotfix 2021-0-3 there is a possibility to change this path to local by creating a registry entry.
Note:
The procedure described below is done at your own risk.
Questions about this should be clarified before the practical implementation.
Always make a copy of a file before making any changes to it.
Before changing registry entries, create a backup of the registry key to be modified by exporting the key in the registry editor under File->export.
We recommend that you have this work done by an experienced technician.
After you have installed at least version 2021-0-3 of Allplan, proceed as follows:
Be sure to exit Allplan before making the change to prevent data loss and errors.
- On a local C: or D: drive of the computer used for Allplan, create a new folder with the name "Local data" and the subfolder "Allplan" (e.g. C:\Local data\Allplan) .
- In Windows, as an administrator, start the Windows Registry Editor (Start-> Run-> Regedit) .
- In the registry, in the left column, open the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Nemetschek\Allplan\2021.0\InstallRoot.
