Question:

How can Allplan be operated under a QHD / UHD / 4K resolution?


Answer:


Starting with Allplan 2018, a query will appear in the Allplan Start under a QHD / UHD / 4K resolution (from 2560 x 1600), in which you can decide whether the operating system scaling should also be used in Allplan. This choice can be changed at any time in the Allplan Options-> Desktop Enviroment- > Display-> Scaling of the user interface.

Note:

If this option is switched on, Allplan uses the scaling level, which is set globally in the display settings of the operating system. Side effects of this scaling can be slight blurring in the symbols, drawing elements, and dropped graphics in Allplan.
Please note that this functionality is only available from Windows 8.1 and higher.

Question:

I want to update the operating system of my computer. As far as I know, I have to return the license. How should I proceed?


Answer:

If you activated the license online by entering a Product Key, you can return the Product Key and reactivate it later. You can return and activate the license only if the computers have Internet access. The computer where you want to return or activate the license does not have to be online all the time. It is enough if it is online while you are returning or activating the license.

Use your computer to return the license before you switch to another operating system.

Returning a license
To return a license in online mode

  • Open the 'License settings' dialog box: Services application -> Utilities -> License settings
  • Write down the Product Key for the license you are returning.
  • Click License activationon the left. Then click the license you want to return.
  • Click Return license.


You can now switch to the new operating system.
After having done this, you reactivate the license for the new system.

Activating the license:

  • Open the 'License settings' dialog box: Services application -> Utilities -> License settings
  • Click License activationon the left.
  • Enter your Product Key.
  • Click Activate license.



Notes:

You can also find your Product Key in Allplan Connect. Go to http://connect.allplan.com/license
Click Profile -> License administration.
Only administrators can use this function.

Question:

The windows for options and the window for IFC import and export are closed immediately when opened. How can this issue be solved?



Answer:


1. HP computer

If you are using an HP (Hewlett-Packard) computer, please take these steps. Otherwise proceed to number 2.

Check whether the security software "HP ProtectTools" is installed on this computer. If yes, then uninstall "HP ProtectTools". This software suite consists of several progams. In most cases, these programs are:

  • HP ProtectTools Device Access Manager
  • Embedded Security for HP
  • Face Recognition for HP ProtectTools
  • File Sanitizer For HP ProtectTools
  • Privacy Manager for HP ProtectTools
  • Theft Recovery
  • Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools
  • HP ProtectTools Security Manager



It is possible that more or less HP software than the listed is installed. When you uninstall the "HP ProtectTools Security Manager", no other dependent software should be listed during uninstallation.

If there is dependent software listed during uninstallation, please uninstall these programs first. As the last step, "HP ProtectTools Security Manager" should be uninstalled.

Important notice: Please restart the computer to complete uninstalling the software.




2. Dell computer

If you are using a Dell computer, please take these steps. Otherwise contact the Allplan support.

Check whether the security software "Dell Data Protection" is installed on this computer. If yes, then uninstall "Dell Data Protection". This software suite consists of several progams. In most cases, these programs are:

  • Dell Data Protection | Security Tools Authentication
  • Dell Data Protection | Security Tools


It is possible that more or less Dell software than the listed is installed. When you uninstall the "Dell Data Protection", no other dependent software should be listed during uninstallation.

If there is dependent software listed during uninstallation, please uninstall these programs first. As the last step, "Dell Data Protection" should be uninstalled.

Notes:

HP ProtectTools Security Suite was developed by McAfee in cooperation with HP. It is pre-installed on most HP business notebooks and on some HP desktop computers.

HP ProtectTools are using Full Volume Encryption (FVE) by McAfee Safeboot, which changes the Win32 API behaviour. This causes problems in Allplan.

Also Dell is using similar mechanisms for the Dell Data Protection Suite. They have the same influence on Allplan.

Please note that these programs in either case have negative effects on stability and functionality of Allplan, even if you might not notice it (example: working options and IFC windows in different Allplan version).

Question:

Why is it not possible to clear the check box for 'Find license server automatically' and why can't I enter an additional server name? These functions are grayed out.


Answer:

This problem is caused by Windows access rights. Only administrators can change these options.

Installing Allplan:
If this problem occurs during Setup and you cannot select a license, start by installing Allplan as a viewer.

Granting permissions later:
Assign full control to the users.
Local permissions prevent them from accessing the following file: Lic3LM.ini

Check whether the users have full control of the following folder:
Click folder with the right mouse button -> Properties -> Security -> Edit -> select the user - > grant full control

C:\ProgramData\Nemetschek(hidden file)

Open the 'License settings' dialog box: Services application -> Utilities -> License settingsYou should now be able to clear the check box and enter additional server names.

Question:

What license issues do I need to consider when upgrading from Allplan 2018/2019/2020 to Allplan 2021?


Answer:

Installation options during Setups

First-time installation with copying data (default): this option copies and converts the data of the previous version to the new version. You can choose to transfer projects, too. This option does not change the previous version.
Upgrade: this option also transfers the data to the new version. However, you can no longer use the previous version after upgrading.
First-time installation: this option installs Allplan 2021 parallel to the version you are running. However, your data will neither be transferred nor converted. You can find more information in the help. Just press F1 during Setup.


Depending on the licensing system you use, you need to consider different points.

1. Upgrade Allplan 2021 – stand-alone workstation

The license for Allplan 2020 updates automatically. Start Setup and follow the instructions displayed. When you are prompted to choose the license configuration, select Use active license. Follow the installation instructions.

Note:
The licenses only update automatically when you upgrade. To install Allplan 2020 on a new computer, please read on connect.allplan.com/license within the menu item Information on Installation and Licensing the instructions Transferring license to a new computer.
You can find your Product Key in Allplan Connect as usual. Go to: connect.allplan.com/license


2. Upgrading Allplan 2021 with a license server


Start by updating your license(s) at the license server. After this, upgrade the clients. To do this, start the License Settings program on the server. Click License Activation on the left, and then click the license you want to update. Click Update License.

After updating your license(s) you can upgrade Allplan at the clients. Start Allplan Setup and follow the instructions displayed. The license server license will be detected automatically on the network. When you are prompted to choose the license configuration, select Use active license. Follow the installation instructions.


NOTE:
Check the version of your installed license server on the server. Starting with the license server version 2016-1-4, the detailed version status (Build-ID) is displayed directly in the lower left corner of the License Settings program.

The latest version 1.1196.xxx.xxx should be displayed here. If an older Build ID is displayed, then you still have an older license server in use. In any case, please update your license server. Download the software for the license server from the Allplan Connect service portal. Detailed instructions can be found at connect.allplan.com/license under the menu item Information on installation and Licensing' and the instructions 'Updating license server and licenses'.

Note: You can update the licenses only at a license server you have already installed. If you want to switch to Allplan 2021 and move the license server to a new server, please read on

You can find your Product Key in Allplan Connect as usual. Go to: connect.allplan.com/license


Downloading licenses from Allplan Connect

You can also obtain your activation codes for Allplan 2021 IBD in the Allplan Connect service portal.
To do this, click Profile > License Management.

You can only use this function as an administrator.

We strongly recommend that you back up and archive all your data before you upgrade to Allplan 2017.


How to install:


You can find detailed instructions on how to install Allplan 2017 in the following places:

- After you have downloaded Allplan 2017, you can find the install.chm file in the Helpfiles\English folder.
- You can find the install.chm file on the Allplan 2017 DVD in the following folder: <DVD>:\programs\x64\Allplan\Helpfiles\English.

Please read these instructions before you install Allplan 2017.

Some notes on installing Allplan 2017

If you want to switch from Allplan 2014/2015/2016 to Allplan 2017, you can choose between three installation options. We recommend using the second option: first-time installation and copy data from Allplan 2014/2015/2016.

1. First-time installation

This option installs Allplan 2017 to a new folder without affecting any other Allplan installation (2016 or earlier). Setup does transfer neither data nor settings to the new installation.

If you want to transfer data later, you have the following options:

You can uninstall Allplan 2017 and then upgrade from Allplan 2014/2015/2016.
You can integrate the data manually (requires administrative knowledge).

2. First-time installation and copy data from Allplan 2014/2015/2016

This option installs Allplan 2017 to a new folder without affecting any other Allplan installation (2016 or earlier). You can configure the program to automatically copy the office standard (\std), projects (\prj) and user data (\usr) from Allplan 2014/2015/2016 to the new installations folder.
This duplicates the data: you can use all projects, defaults and resources both in Allplan 2016 and in Allplan 2014/2015/2016. This way, you can test the new version without losing your &apos;old&apos; Allplan version.
Bear in mind, though, that you should not mix data from different versions, as merging data later involves considerable time and effort.

2a. Continue with first-time installation and copy data from version

This option is available when you have already installed <Product_Version> and copied the data to a different computer that accesses the same data server. As a result, the data have already been transferred.

3. Upgrade and transfer data from Allplan 2014/2015/2016

This option installs Allplan 2017 to an existing folder, converting Allplan 2014/2015/2016 to Allplan 2017 and transferring all important settings. Afterwards, you can no longer work with Allplan 2014/2015/2016.
This does nor affect earlier Allplan versions (Allplan 2013 or earlier).



Installing on a network:

  • If you work in a network environment (one common central file storage folder), you must upgrade all workstations to Allplan 2017. Therefore, make sure you can upgrade all workstations (deadline for Serviceplus agreement: July 1, 2016) beforeyou start installing.
  • During the upgrade, Allplan 2014/2015/2016 must not be running on any workstation.
  • When installing with Workgroup Manager, make sure all workstations are checked in before you start upgrading.



Converting data:

IBD 2017

IBD 2017 is expected to be released with the Allplan 2017-0-1 Hotfix at the end of July 2016.

Question:

I have installed Allplan using the temporary Softlock license ("customer#_seat_psd.nslock") and "Trial" is displayed for its status in the License Manager.
How can I register this license?



Answer:

You use License Manager to create a registration request and send it by email to register@nemetschek.de.
In response, you get a final license file. Installing this license removes the lime limit.
Below is a description of the necessary steps.



Notes:

  • Using the temporary license, you can start Allplan as a trial version. You can work with Allplan without any restrictions for 30 days.
    After expiration of this period, Allplan starts as a viewer only. However, you can still request and install the final license.
  • When running Windows Vista, start Nemetschek License Manager as the administrator:
    Start -> (All) Programs -> Nemetschek -> Nemetschek SoftLock 2006 -> License Manager
    Click "License Manager" with the right mouse button and choose "Run as administrator" on the shortcut menu.




How to proceed:

1. Request a license registered for your computer

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start - (All) Programs - Nemetschek - Nemetschek Softlock 2006 - License Manager(or Services application -> Utilities -> License -> License Manager (NemSLock)).

    When running Windows Vista, start License Manager as the system administrator: click Start - (All) Programs - Nemetschek - Nemetschek Softlock 2006 - License Manager.
    Click License Managerwith the right mouse button. On the shortcut menu, click Run as administrator.
  2. Select the seat you want to register so that it is highlighted in blue.

    Note:You can only register seats you have purchased. If you can see only seats with numbers between 90 and 99 (= trial licenses for temporary use), you first need to install the personal license for temporary use.
  3. Click License requestat top left.

    The License Request Wizardstarts. The Welcome to the license request wizarddialog box provides information on the steps that follow.
  4. Click Next >.
    The Customer detailsdialog box opens.

    Note: Editing customer details requires administrator privileges. If you do not have these privileges, you will see a corresponding message. Cancel NemSLock License Manager and start again by selecting the Run as administrator option on the shortcut menu.
  5. Enter the necessary details:

    - If the Client IDhas eight zeros (00000000) and the CD Keyhas eight capital F&apos;s (FFFFFFFF), you selected the Trial license for temporary useoption when you installed Allplan.
    In this case, install the personal license for temporary use before you create the registration request.

    - If Client IDand CD Keydo not match the numbers printed on your delivery note (for example, typing errors, small letters and capital letters mixed up), you can enter Client ID and CD Key manually.

    - Fill out all the fields.

    Make sure you enter your email address correctly, because registered licenses and replies to status queries of license will be sent to the address you specify here.

    Note:Check the entries for Client ID(customer number) and CD Key , making sure these numbers are the same as those printed on the delivery note you received from Allplan. The CD Keyusually consists of the numbers 0 to 9 and the capital letters A to F.

    Tip: You can also find these numbers in the personal license file for temporary use (*_psd.nslock). Open the license file in an editor and scroll down to the end of the file. You can then copy the license codes displayed after CUSTOMERand CDKEYto the Clipboard and paste them into the appropriate boxes.
  6. Click Next >.
  7. Select the Program, Versionand Seatand click Next >.

    Note: If the Client IDis invalid (for example, when you use a trial license) you cannot confirm the dialog box by clicking OK. Instead, you will see a corresponding message.
  8. Specify how to send the registration file and click Next >.

    Start email program ...
    The program creates and saves the register.txt file before it opens your default email program. The program automatically attaches the registration file to the email and enters register (please no spam) @ (please no spam) nemetschek.defor the address.

    Save the registration file ...
    The program creates and saves the register.txt file before it opens the folder with the registration file in Windows Explorer. Now you can use all the options provided by Windows Explorer: for example, you can attach the file to an email, copy it to a computer with Internet access and so on.

    In addition, you can see the data that were written to the registration file.
  9. Click Finish.
  10. Click Close to exit NemSLock License Manager.


You will receive a reply by email within a few minutes. This email provides information on the registration process and usually includes the registered license file.

Note: The registered license file is generated by an automated system. Consequently, any additional comments in incoming emails are not read. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Allplan directly.



2. Install the license file

Shortly after you sent the registration request to &apos;register@nemetschek.de&apos; as described in step 1, the final license file will be sent to the email address you specified in the registration request.
Install this license file as follows:

  • Save the license file to any folder on the hard disk.
    If the license comes as a zip file, extract it.
  • Next, install the license file by double-clicking it ("customer#_seat.nslock").
    Confirm the dialog box.
  • As an alternative, you can also use License Manager to install the license file (Start -> (All) Programs -> Nemetschek -> Nemetschek SoftLock 2006 -> License Manager).
    Click "Install - Install license" at top left in Nemetschek SoftLock License Manager and select the license by clicking "Browse...".
    Click "Finish" to complete the installation process.


Note:

Do not use the same computer to register several license files for different seats. This would connect the seats. You cannot separate the seats again without the help of technical support.

Question:

You may ask yourself on which occasions or user actions Allplan synchronizes drawing files and plans with the Bimplus Cloud in an Allplan Share project.


Answer:

The following cases apply to drawing files:


Case 1:
Drawing files in a share project are uploaded to the Bimplus cloud for synchronization if all three of the following conditions apply:

  • A change has occurred on the drawing files
  • The drawing files have been changed to gray or deselected
  • Open on a project-specific basis is closed


If other users have the drawing file which meets all the criteria in case one, grayed out (i.e. it is passively in the background), then after the first user has carried out all three steps, they will automatically receive a message informing them that there have been changes to the drawing file. They can then either display or reject these changes.
If the other users do not see this message, they should make sure that they are using the latest version of their Allplan installation and that the check mark is set in the options for
Options -> Desktop Environment -> Save/Load -> For changes in reference drawing files show message. If the check mark is not set, simply set it and restart Allplan.

Case two:
In Allplan, click on Allplan A in the top left-hand corner and select Save all -> all drawing files that have changes are synchronized.

In this case too, as in case 1, a message is sent to all users who have the drawing file, to which all the criteria from case 1 apply, in grey (i.e. passively in the background).

Case three:
Even if you simply open the function New project, Open Project, all drawing files that have been modified are synchronized

Case four:
When you call up the Layout Editor, all drawing files that have been changed are also synchronized



The following applies to plans:
If drawing file contents in the plan change, then the plan is NOT uploaded - no need . Plans are only uploaded if either something changes in the plan layout (move or delete a plan element in the plan, etc.) or, for example, the scale or drawing type of a plan element is changed. The upload then takes place automatically when you change the plan or leave the plan layout.




Note:

In Allplan version 2018, these notes also apply accordingly; only case 2 for drawing files does not work in this version.

Task:

You would like to export your Allplan 3D animation model and present it to somebody who does not work with Allplan.



Preparation:

Install a plug-in for Internet Explorer on the computer where you want to view the 3D data. Using this plug-in, you can open VRML files.

Plug-ins of this kind can be found on the Internet. Visit the website of Parallelgraphics, for example.
This plug-in is available for the following browsers:
Internet Explorer 6.0, Netscape Browser 8.0, Mozilla Firefox 1.5, Opera 8.5 or later versions.

Solution:

Open an animation window in Allplan.
Select File->Export ->Export to Cinema 4D/VRML/3DS/U3Dand save the data under any name in Windows Explorer.
It is advisable to save the file in an empty folder as the textures used in Allplan are copied together with the VRM fileto this folder.
You can then view the VRML file in Internet Explorer. All you need to do is double-click it. The functions provided for navigating and zooming are similar to those you can use in Allplan&apos;s animation window.



Note:

The Export 3D PDFtool is provided on the animation window&apos;s shortcut menu in Allplan 2008 and later versions. You can use Adobe Reader Version 2008 and later to view PDF files created in this manner.

Quality reporter notified us of a crash. In analyzing the data, we found that you can improve the stability of your Allplan installation by installing the current graphics card driver.

Notes:

  • If the program still crashes after you have installed the latest graphics card driver, change the graphics mode from OpenGL to GDI+ in Allplan.

    Allplan 2012-1 and later:
    Start Allplan and select Tools -> Options.
    Select Desktop environment -> Display > Hardware acceleration - graphics area: switch off the "Use OpenGL for all viewports" option. Restart Allplan.

    From Allplan 2011-1 to Allplan 2012-0-2:
    Start the Services application.
    Service -> Hotline Tools -> draw -> OK
    On = OpenGL mode
    Off = GDI+ mode
