I am currently creating and editing Reports for Allplan using Microsoft Visual Studio 2019 (version 16.11.33) together with the Microsoft RDLC Report Designer (version 15.3.1) extension.
When I open Visual Studio, I get the following message:
“Your version of Visual Studio is no longer supported or serviced. Update to the latest version of 16.11 to remain supported and receive the latest security features or install 17.14.”
with two buttons: Update 16.11 and Install 17.14.
Before making a decision, I would like to know what experiences other Allplan users have had when updating Visual Studio to the latest 16.11.x build or installing 17.14 (Visual Studio 2022).
My Questions:
1) If you updated from 16.11.33 to the latest 16.11.x, was the Microsoft RDLC Report Designer (15.3.1) still available and working properly?
2) If you installed 17.14 (Visual Studio 2022), was the Microsoft RDLC Report Designer (15.3.1) still available and working properly?
In both cases above, the most important:
1) Were you able to open, edit, and save RDLC files for Allplan without problems?
2) With which version(s) of Allplan were the created/edited RDLC files compatible? (e.g. Allplan 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025)
What I would like to know in detail:
1) Your Visual Studio version (exact build, e.g. 16.11.38 or 17.14.0).
2) RDLC Designer version (did 15.3.1 install normally, or did you need to reinstall it separately?).
3) Which Allplan version(s) you tested the edited RDLC reports with.
4) Whether the following functions worked normally:
a) Opening and saving RDLC files
b) Tablix functions (grouping, merging/splitting, page breaks)
c) Parameters used for Allplan reports
d) Embedded images/resources
e) Expressions, aggregates, and functions
f) Preview/rendering (if you use the local preview)
g) Any issues, bugs, or missing features you noticed.
h) If you had to apply any workarounds (e.g. installation order, keeping old VS installed, enabling certain workloads, etc.).
Why this matters:
RDLC reports are a critical part of my Allplan workflow (attributes, labels, quantity lists, reinforcement schedules, etc.). Before I update my Visual Studio, I want to be sure that the RDLC Report Designer 15.3.1 will still work reliably and that the generated RDLC files remain compatible with Allplan.
If you already updated to the latest 16.11.x or installed 17.14, your detailed feedback would be very valuable – especially regarding Allplan version compatibility of the reports you created.
