Warum wollt ihr überhaupt eine IFC-Datei importieren. Dafür (= Datenaustausch zwischen CAD-Programmen) ist diese doch gar nicht gedacht!
It's not quite that...
Initially, more than 25 years ago, the IFC format was designed to enable the exchange of 3D data while preserving the parameters of the elements (a wall remains a wall), regardless of the software used. This format is neutral and open, meaning that it does not belong to a single publisher, but that anyone can contribute to its development.
As a result, the hegemony of the DWG format was beginning to waver.
As everything was not yet defined, and exchanges often ended in failure or with missing elements, it was simpler to say that this format was only intended for looking at the model through viewers than for really making exchanges. Each owner of a file format was therefore able to say that his format was the best and go on his own way.
The initial ambition was somewhat reduced and even today, there are difficulties in making a correct exchange based on the IFC format.
And yet, as I well remember, more than 15 years ago, Allplan wanted to work as closely as possible with the IFC format. Clearly, this presented a number of difficulties, and this objective was defeated.
As with the DWG exchange, we could have imagined having a tool for mapping parametric elements to its own objects.
The commercial battles added to the technical difficulties to be resolved, requiring a real agreement between the editors, finally limited the level of results of this format.
Yet it could have become a genuine standard format.
But the story is never over, so let's keep hoping...
